In 2010 the study group collaborated with an existing stream on Law and Crime to form the new ‘Law, Crime and Rights’ Stream at the BSA Annual Conference in 2011. An extremely high level of submissions was received and the stream was significantly oversubscribed.

Stream-Plenary:
'60 years of Sociology,
60 years of Human Rights'
The Study Group also hosted a Stream Plenary in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Human Rights at London School of Economics.

Guest Speakers:
- Prof. Lydia Morris (Essex University)
- Prof. Chetan Bhatt (London School of Economics)
- Dr. Claire Moon (London School of Economics)
The speakers looked at how the understanding of human rights has developed since the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 and what the disciplines of sociology and the study of human rights can learn from each other. The speakers reflected on themes including aslyum seeking and refugees, genocide, and the relationship of human rights practitioners and activists to research in sociology.
