Study Group Convenors
The study group currently has 5 Convenors: Michele, Damien, Hannah, Michele and Alice. The convenors are not only committed to meeting the established aims of the group (inclusive of developing the group's network and wider research contributions), but they are also all active researchers and experts within the area of the sociology of rights. A brief description of the convenors can be found below, whilst further information can be found on our respective external research pages.

Dr. Michele Lamb
Michele is a Principal Lecturer in Human Rights and Director of the Crucible Centre for Human Rights Research at the University of Roehampton. Her research interests include post-conflict reconciliation and human rights, civil society and non-governmental organizations, the sociology of human rights and human rights research methods. Michele was the founder of the study group and has been a Convenor since 2007.

Dr. Damien Short
Damien is a Reader in Human Rights and Director of the Human Rights Consortium at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. His research interests include indigenous rights and reconciliation projects, genocide studies, the ecological crisis, sociological approaches to human rights, and critically engaged activist research. Damien has been a Convenor of the study group since 2009.

Dr. Hannah Miller
Hannah is a Senior Lecturer in Human Rights, Politics and International Relations, Course Director of the MA in Human RIghts and a lead researcher within the Human Rights and Social Justice research cluster at Kingston University. Her research interests include human rights activism and solidarity campaign practices, craftivism, rights-based and rights-framed approaches to development, transitional justice, the politics of representation and various forms of resistance. Hannah has been a Convenor of the study group since 2011.

Dr. Michele Grigolo
Michele Grigolo is Lecturer in Sociology at Nottingham Trent University. His research interests revolve around human rights at international and, more recently, city level, in relation to equality and discrimination, religious freedom, migration, and LGBT rights. He has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals including European Journal of International Law, International Journal of Human Rights (2010 special issue on the sociology of human rights), and Ethnic and Racial Studies. He is co-editor of the bookFighting Discrimination in Europe. The Case for a Race-Conscious Approach (2013). Michele has been a Convenor of the study group since 2014.

Dr. Alice Nah
Alice is a Research and Teaching Fellow at York University. She is conducting an international research project examining the security management practices of human rights defenders at risk and how they intersect with civil society networks of protection. Alice has been a Convenor of the study group since 2014.
